Biodiesel usually refers to fatty acid methyl ester or ethyl ester formed by the reaction of vegetable oil, animal oil or waste oil (commonly known as "waste oil") and methanol or ethanol, also known as BD100 biodiesel, with high cetane number, low sulfur and no aromatic hydrocarbons It can be used as a blending component of diesel fuel for vehicles, and is an internationally recognized renewable clean fuel. Promoting the use of biodiesel in my country will not only help reduce atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions, and do a good job of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", but also help prevent "waste oil" from returning to the dining table and ensure food safety.

The state actively supports the development of the biodiesel industry. The "Renewable Energy Law" clearly stipulates that oil sales companies should incorporate bio-liquid fuels that meet national standards into their fuel sales systems. In 2014, the "Biodiesel Industry Development Policy" clarified the industry standard requirements in terms of raw materials, layout, and supervision. In 2016, the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for Biomass Energy Development" proposed to improve the standard system of biodiesel products and promote the application of biodiesel in the field of transportation. In recent years, in order to meet the needs of air pollution prevention and control, the sixth phase of the national mandatory quality standards of "Vehicle Diesel" and "B5 Diesel" have been revised and released. The "B5 Diesel" standard requires the addition of 1~5% BD100 biodiesel. The state also implements the policy of exempting consumption tax and 70% value-added tax for biodiesel that meets national standards. In addition, Shanghai has introduced strong fiscal price supporting policies, which have achieved positive results in the pilot promotion of biodiesel. It is understood that there are currently about 300 gas stations in Shanghai that sell B5 diesel, with an average of 19,000 vehicles refueling each day. The daily sales volume of B5 diesel is about 1,600 tons, which is equivalent to about 80 tons of BD100 biodiesel per day.
